He’s similar to a £100m star: Spurs hit the jackpot on monster £15m signing

da bet7: It’s been an odd campaign for Tottenham Hotspur this season.

da dobrowin: Ange Postecoglou’s side have been absolutely ravaged by injuries all year, which, alongside some already spotty form from the end of last season, has seen their results in the Premier League vary wildly from week to week.

It wasn’t too long ago that picking up a win looked an impossible task, yet all of a sudden, they picked up their third league victory on the bounce on Saturday, which goes to show that, when fit, the North Londoners do have a lot of talent within their squad.

In fact, one of their more promising players has recently been compared to one of the most exciting and valuable midfielders in Europe and looks to be one of their recent rare successful acquisitions from Ligue 1.

Spurs' poor record buying from Ligue 1

It’s too soon to cast a definitive judgment on Kevin Danso’s Spurs’ future, but it would be fair to say that the Lilywhites do not have a particularly good track record when it comes to signing players from Ligue 1.

Tanguy Ndombele for Tottenham

The most notable example of this has to be Tanguy Ndombele, who joined the club for around £63m from Lyon in the summer of 2019 and did so to a lot of fanfare.

Unfortunately, instead of helping to revolutionise the North Londoners’ midfield, the Frenchman became arguably their biggest flop, making just 91 appearances for the team between the 19/20 and 21/22 campaigns, and going out on three loan moves before joining OGC Nice for free in July 2024.

tanguy-ndombele-tottenham-hotspur-transfer-hojbjerg-pochettino

A cheaper flop was Serge Aurier, who joined the club from Paris Saint-Germain for around £23m in the summer of 2017 as a replacement for Kyle Walker.

The trouble-making right-back managed to get himself sent off in his first Premier League start for the club, was described as generally “erratic” by Spurs icon Teddy Sheringham, and then, in the club’s 2021 League Cup final, gave away the free-kick that saw Manchester City score the winner, which also happened to be his final game for the North Londoners, and saw Jamie Carragher describe him as “one of the biggest liabilities in Premier League football.”

The unfortunate truth is that there are even more names you could bring up as examples of bad signings Tottenham have made from Ligue over the years, such as Clinton N’Jie, who made just 14 appearances for the club, or Georges-Kevin N’Koudou, who scored one goal and provided two assists in 27 games.

However, there are some examples in which Spurs managed to find a gem in the French top-flight, which they did a couple of years ago, and now have a player compared to one of the most valuable midfielders in Europe.

The Spurs ace who's a big-money star in the making

Tottenham are lucky to have a handful of incredibly exciting and promising youngsters on their books at the moment, from the academy superstar Mikey Moore to signings like Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall.

However, just a few years older is Pape Matar Sarr, who might have a little less time to reach the heady heights of a world-class midfielder but is nonetheless an exceptional talent and, as things stand, a successful signing from Ligue 1.

The 22-year-old “monster,” as dubbed by GOAL’s Mitch Fretton, joined the Lilywhites from FC Metz for around £15m in August 2021 and, after spending the 21/22 season back on loan with the Lorraine-based outfit, has already amassed 87 appearances for the North Londoners, in which he’s scored eight goals and provided six assists while playing in central and defensive midfield.

Moreover, the “unplayable” midfielder, as dubbed by Spurs fan and podcaster Lee McQueen, has also won flattering comparisons to Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde.

They stem from FBref, which compares players in similar positions in Europe’s top five leagues, the Champions League and Europa League then creates a list of the ten most comparable players for each one, and in this instance, has concluded that the Uruguayan is the tenth most similar midfielder to the Lilywhites ace.

The best way to see where this comparison has come from is to look at the underlying metrics in which the pair rank closely, including, but not limited to, expected assisted goals, actual assists, passing accuracy, goal-creating actions, clearances, carries and more, all per 90.

On top of the general encouragement that should come from a comparison to the Real Madrid star, the North Londoners should also be excited about what this could mean for the Senegalese star’s future price tag.

For example, according to Football Transfers, the multi-Champions League winner is currently worth up to €123.8m, which converts to around £103m, and while the former Metz star isn’t worth that today, who’s to say he won’t reach that valuation in the future if he is already so statistically similar to Valverde.

Ultimately, Spurs haven’t had the best track record when it comes to signing players from France over the last decade or so, but in Sarr, it looks like they have very much bucked the trend and have a future star on their hands.

Leeds set sights on move to sign 25 y/o forward with 18 goals this season

da premier bet: Leeds United are in the hunt for promotion, which may determine the calibre of player they can attract to Elland Road during the summer transfer window.

Leeds United set for monumental clash at Bramall Lane

da betsul: Championship clashes don’t come bigger than on Monday night for Leeds United. Daniel Farke has his side sitting two points clear at the top of the table, but Sheffield United linger directly below the Whites in the race for automatic promotion.

Fittingly, both sides meet at Bramall Lane tomorrow evening, and a statement victory from the visitors would open up a five-point advantage at the summit heading into the final 12 matches of their league campaign.

Speaking ahead of the top-two meeting, Farke confirmed Leeds winger Manor Solomon is a doubt to face the Blades, stating: “So, it will be a right race. But he is more or less the only question mark.”

Patrick Bamford and Maximilian Wober also miss out as expected, though there is plenty of squad depth within the camp to compensate for absentees. At this point, navigating a way over the finishing line is key for Leeds United before the search for summer reinforcements begins at Elland Road.

Ultimately, the question of promotion will determine the extent of business they are able to conduct. Recently, Leeds were linked with ambitious moves for AC Milan loanee Tammy Abraham and Sunderland’s Wilson Isidor.

Turning their attention to alternative markets, Farke has now set his sights on a fellow countryman who has impressed at the highest level this term.

Leeds United turn attention to Celtic star Nicolas Kuhn

According to The Boot Room, Leeds United are interested in bringing Celtic’s Nicolas Kuhn to Elland Road following his magnificent form for the Bhoys on both domestic and continental stages this campaign.

The 25-year-old has lodged 18 goals and 12 assists this campaign under Brendan Rodgers, including strikes against RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich during the Scottish Premiership champions’ run to the Champions League knockout playoff phase.

Everton, Crystal Palace, Newcastle United and Brentford are also in hot pursuit of the former Rapid Vienna winger amid emergence in Glasgow after completing a £3 million move in January 2024.

Dubbed ‘Super Nicolas Kuhn’ by Celtic supporters, the former Germany Under-20 international has averaged around two shots and 1.8 key passes per Scottish Premiership fixture this term, per Sofascore. He has also created eight ‘big chances’ as the Glasgow giants near a fourth successive title triumph.

While the offer of regular silverware and appearing in the Champions League would be difficult for Kuhn to leave behind, there is growing speculation over his future as the lure of Premier League stardom is an enticing one for any player who has established themselves north of the border.

Celtic would likely be in no hurry to sell, given his contract at Parkhead runs until 2029. Simply put, Leeds would have to secure promotion to the top flight to stand any chance of tempting him to Yorkshire.

Liverpool make approach for "versatile" £50m ace who's Man City's top target

da mrbet: Liverpool are well down the line in their hunt for the Premier League title and could look to back up their impressive season by producing an exciting summer transfer window.

Liverpool's competitiveness on all fronts set to entice new arrivals

da casino: Liverpool managed to ride the storm against Paris Saint-Germain and performed a smash and grab late on to ensure they took a 1-0 lead over the Ligue 1 champions back to Anfield for the second-leg of their Champions League Round of 16 affair.

Harvey Elliott popped up late on to spark jubilant scenes in the away end – Arne Slot’s side showed a different side to their game in the French capital, which has bred optimism that they could go on to claim a sixth crown in Europe’s premier competition.

With the Premier League and Carabao Cup firmly in sight, the Reds are one of the most attractive destinations worldwide for potential new arrivals come the summer. Despite their immediate priority being silverware, plenty of work is going on behind the scenes as the Merseyside giants aim to build on their recent success.

Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez has recently emerged as a Liverpool target following his brilliant form on the south coast this season. If circumstances align, Kostas Tsimikas could depart to make way for the Hungary international.

Furthermore, contact has been made with Alexander Isak’s representatives over a move to Anfield. Darwin Nunez has cut an unconvincing figure through the middle, heightening the need for attacking reinforcements.

Speculation surrounding incomings at Liverpool is starting to escalate as the season reaches its business end, and the Reds have now made contact over an energetic figure who could add extra steel in the engine room.

Liverpool make contact over Atalanta midfielder Ederson

According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool have registered their interest in Atalanta midfielder Ederson, making contact to find out his situation with the Europa League holders. The outlet state that the Brazil international remains a long-term priority target for Manchester City and specify that a fee in the region of £50 million may be enough to secure his signature this summer.

Related The end for Nunez: Liverpool in big-money talks to sign "the new Haaland"

Liverpool are gearing up to sign a first-class striker this summer.

Manchester United may also enter the race to replenish their ageing midfield. Labelled “versatile” by Tim Vickery, Liverpool have previously scouted Ederson, who has registered four goals and two assists in 39 appearances this season for Atalanta.

Famed for his tenacity, the 25-year-old has won 132 duels and made 142 recoveries in Serie A across 2024/25. On the creativity front, he has also fashioned 23 chances alongside recording a pass accuracy rate of 87.8%.

Liverpool wants to establish themselves as the dominant force in English football for years to come, so it makes sense to try to pip their rivals where possible to ensure quality reinforcements arrive at Anfield ahead of next season.

Arteta must regret signing Arsenal flop whose value has tumbled by £16m

da bet7: Since entering the dugout in December 2019, it would be fair to say that Mikel Arteta has got a lot right at Arsenal.

da dobrowin: The Spaniard has transformed a painfully mediocre team unable to qualify for the Champions League into regular Premier League title challengers.

The former captain has got plenty of things right off the pitch as well, from setting a clear standard to making excellent additions to the squad, such as Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and David Raya.

However, he’s also guilty of some mistakes, especially in recruitment, as one of his signings from just a few years ago has seen his valuation plummet since moving to N5.

Arteta's worst signings

In terms of recent examples, you can’t get much worse than Raheem Sterling.

The Chelsea loanee was undoubtedly a panic signing on the final day of the summer transfer window, and while he told the fans that they would “see the best” of him in red and white, they’ve seen anything but.

The former England regular has only managed to amass a paltry tally of one goal and two assists in 21 games, which comes to a dire average of a goal involvement every seven games.

Worse still, his one goal and one of his assists came against League One Bolton Wanderers back in September.

When deciding to bring the Kingston-born winger to the club, Arteta and Co had clearly forgotten about the equally dreadful signing of Willian from the Pensioners in the summer of 2020, who put pen to paper on a three-year deal when he moved for free.

However, despite picking up a couple of assists on his debut, the Brazilian was out the door the following summer after agreeing to terminate his contract due to his dismally poor showings across the campaign that saw him rack up one goal and seven assists in 37 games and land a place on the list of the club’s worst ever signings for years to come.

With that said, as bad as the signings of Willian and Sterling are, at least they didn’t cost the club a fee to get over the line, which cannot be said about another of Arteta’s disappointing acquisitions, who’s seen his valuation plummet in recent seasons.

The Arteta signing whose value has collapsed

Arsenal made several game-changing signings in the summer of 2022, and while the likes of Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus are probably surplus to requirements at the club today, they were, at the very least, vital to the revival of the team, which cannot be said for Fabio Vieira.

The Gunners made the surprise decision to spend around £34m on the Portuguese midfielder after an impressive season for Porto in which he scored seven goals and provided 16 assists in just 39 appearances, totalling 2004 minutes.

That meant the Santa Maria da Feira-born dynamo averaged a goal involvement every 1.69 games, or every 87.13 minutes, which at the very least helped explain why the North Londoners thought he was worth a gamble.

Unfortunately, it’s a gamble that has not paid off, as while he was never dreadful in England, he wasn’t particularly impressive either.

For example, across his two full campaigns in the capital, the supposedly “exceptional” ace, as talent scout Jacek Kulig described him, was only able to score three goals and provide nine assists in 49 appearances, totalling 1886 minutes, which comes out to an average of a goal involvement every 4.08 games, or every 157.16 minutes.

With it clear that the 24-year-old was not progressing, the club decided to send him back to Porto on loan this season, but while he’s been a little more productive in Portugal, he’s still not hit the heights of 21/22, amassing a tally of just three goals and four assists in 29 appearances.

Unsurprisingly, three years of mediocre displays have seen the midfielder’s valuation plummet, and according to Transfermarkt, he’s now worth just €22m, which is about £18m, or a whopping £16m less than he cost Arteta and Co two and a half years ago.

Ultimately, Arsenal have had a pretty good track record with signings over the years, but considering how the last few years have gone, Vieira would have to be looked upon as a flop, at least for now.

Related Arsenal lost a "top talent" for £0, now he's similar to Isak & Havertz

The experienced Premier League star would be perfect for Arsenal at the moment.

Ipswich loan flop who left in 2022 is now a bigger talent than Philogene

da prosport bet: It’s been just over a month since the transfer window slammed shut, and in a bid to stave off relegation, Ipswich Town were one of the busier clubs in the Premier League.

da luck: Kieran McKenna’s side signed Ben Godfrey and Julio Enciso on loan, while Alex Palmer and Jaden Philogene put pen to paper on permanent deals.

The latter cost the Tractor Boys around £20m from Aston Villa, and while it is probably too early to say with any absolute certainty whether he’ll be a hit, he has been relativley impressive.

That said, one of the club’s former loan flops, who left in 2022, could be described as an even bigger talent, and so far this season, he’s managed to outscore the incredible Liam Delap.

Why Ipswich signed Philogene

So, when it came to reinforcing the squad in the winter market, why did Ipswich turn their attention to Philogene of all players?

Well, there are likely two key, intertwined reasons, with the first being that he looked like a real talent when he played regular football last season.

For example, in 32 appearances for Hull City, totalling 2811 minutes, the 23-year-old ace scored 12 goals – one of which was nominated for the Puskas award – and provided six assists.

That means the former Villa gem averaged a goal involvement every 1.77 games, or every 156.16 minutes, and so far this year, he’s scored three goals in seven appearances.

The second reason the Suffolk side were willing to splash the cash on him is that, at just 23 years old, there is still plenty of time for the winger to improve and if the club are to be relegated this year, they have a very sellable asset or someone to build around in the second tier.

In all, Philogene looks like he was a great purchase for Ipswich and a special talent who could develop into something special, but a former loan flop who left Portman Road in 2022 might be an even bigger talent.

The Ipswich loan flop who could be a bigger talent than Philogene

Ipswich have had their fair share of loan flops, who have then gone on to prove their worth elsewhere, from Chris Wood to Andros Townsend.

It looks like Louie Barry will be another such case, as when he left the club in January 2022, just five months after joining, he did so with a dismal tally of no goals or assists in six first-team appearances.

A few more lacklustre loan spells followed until the talented forward – who was a Barcelona youth player for a time – joined Stockport County on loan for the 23/24 season, where he racked up an impressive haul of nine goals and four assists in 22 games in a campaign cut short by injury.

The Englishman returned to the now League One outfit on loan this season, and to say he exceeded expectations would be a colossal understatement.

In just 24 appearances, totalling 1812 minutes, the “incredible” talent, as dubbed by England international Declan Rice, scored 16 goals and provided three assists.

That comes out to an average of a goal involvement every 1.26 games, or every 95.36 minutes, and means he’s been more productive than Philogene and outscored Delap, who has ten goals and two assists in 30 games this year.

Such a sensational level of output saw Villa recall the 21-year-old and send him on loan to Hull for the rest of the season, but a serious knee injury late last month saw him return to Villa Park after just four appearances and could see him sit out the rest of the campaign.

Ultimately, Ipswich appear to have a potential star on their hands in Philogene, but from how unstoppable he was for Stockport and Villa’s decision to keep and not sell him, an argument could be made that Barry is an even bigger talent.

Wow: Rodgers has already found Celtic's next Maeda in stunning £2m star

da cassino: Celtic progressed through to the last four of the SFA Cup on Sunday after they claimed a 2-0 victory over Hibernian in the quarter-final clash at Parkhead.

da casino: Daizen Maeda and Adam Idah found the back of the net in either half to secure the victory for the Hoops, who are in search of a domestic treble under Brendan Rodgers.

The Bhoys are 16 points clear of Rangers in the Scottish Premiership title race and won the League Cup earlier this term, which means that they are, essentially, only the SFA Cup away from clinching all three trophies.

Idah, as you can see in the clip above, made certain of the victory on Sunday with his flicked finish from close range after he came off the bench in the second half.

There was also yet another goal for Celtic’s Japanese dynamo at the top end of the pitch, as Maeda scored his fifth goal in three SFA Cup appearances this term.

Daizen Maeda's goalscoring form this season

The Japan international has racked up a staggering 27 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions for the Scottish giants so far this season, as he closes in on his first 30-goal season in a Celtic shirt.

His improvement at the top end of the pitch has been a joy to watch from a Hoops perspective this term, after his return of just ten goals and four assists in 36 matches in the 2023/24 campaign.

Maeda has already scored more than twice as many goals as he managed last season and has proven himself to be a reliable presence for Rodgers in the final third, whether he has operated on the left flank or in the middle as a centre-forward.

The 27-year-old star, who is currently valued at £6.7m by Transfermarkt, has vastly improved his output in front of goal in the Premiership, after he only managed a return of six goals in the top-flight last term.

As you can see in the table above, Maeda has played two fewer league games than he did last season, but has already scored more goals, created more ‘big chances’, and recorded more assists.

This shows that Rodgers has got the best out of the Japan international and helped him to be more ruthless and creative at the top end of the pitch, which speaks to the player’s desire to improve and the manager’s ability to develop his squad.

The Northern Irish head coach also helped Matt O’Riley to explode as a goalscoring threat after he arrived at Parkhead in the summer of 2023.

O’Riley scored three goals in 38 league matches under Ange Postecoglou in the 2022/23 campaign, before racking up an exceptional 18 goals in 37 Premiership matches from midfield under Rodgers last season.

The former Liverpool and Leicester boss knows how to unlock the goalscoring touch for his players and he may already have his next project, his next Maeda and O’Riley, brewing in Hyun-jun Yang.

Hyun-jun Yang's Celtic potential

The South Korean youngster came off the bench against Hibernian and got himself into a good position to score for the Hoops, but scuffed his effort and failed to find the back of the net.

67HailHail described him as a ‘supersub’, handing him a rating of 6/10 for his cameo, and it has been clear to see the improvement in his play in the final third this season, even if he did not take his opportunity to score on Sunday.

Celtic winger Hyun-jun Yang.

The 22-year-old, who arrived from Gangwon in the summer of 2023 for just £2m, endured a fairly difficult first season in Glasgow, but has adjusted to football and life in Scotland brilliantly now.

As you can see in the table above, the South Korea international’s form has vastly improved in the current campaign, after having a year to settle in, as he has racked up 11 goal contributions in 27 matches.

A goal or an assist every 95 minutes is a mind-blowing improvement on his return of one every 320 minutes in the 2023/24 campaign and shows that the young attacker is heading in the right direction.

It shows that Rodgers and his coaching team have done a terrific job with him on the training pitch over the last 18 months or so, whilst also showing that Yang is determined to improve and develop as a player by working hard and taking his opportunities when they come.

Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph described the forward as a “raw” player with “real potential” last month, which is a good way to sum up where he is at in his Celtic career right now.

Yang is behind the likes of Nicolas Kuhn, Jota, and Maeda in the wide areas but he still has plenty of time on his hands, at the age of 22, and his statistics show that the winger is heading in the right direction.

Yang

Rodgers has shown, with Maeda and O’Riley, that he can improve attackers and knows when and when not to unleash them at the right times, which is why patience is required with Yang.

It may not happen this season, or even next season, but if the Hoops are patient and allow the South Korean gem the time he needs to develop and thrive at Parkhead, the club could have their next attacking sensation on their hands.

According to a report from Caught Offside, another name on Arsenal’s list of targets is Ademola Lookman, who is expected to leave Atalanta this summer, amid widespread reports of a falling out with manager Gian Piero Gasperini.

However, the race for Lookman is seriously hotting up, as seven Premier League clubs are now chasing the forward, namely Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Aston Villa, so there is set to be fierce competition for his signature.

Atalanta's AdemolaLookmanin action

The Italian club have set an asking price of €65m (£54m), amid the widespread interest, with the likes of Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Juventus also believed to be keen on the former Everton man, who actually has the same agent as Havertz.

"World-class" Lookman could be perfect for Arsenal

The Nigerian has predominantly featured as a second striker or centre-forward for Atalanta this season, and he has put in some very impressive performances, amassing 18 goals and seven assists in 32 matches in all competitions.

Not only that, but the 27-year-old has been lauded as “world-class” by the BBC’s John Bennett, in light of his performances across 2024, most notably scoring a hat-trick for Atalanta to lead them to glory in the Europa League final.

While the London-born forward has often featured centrally this season, he is also capable of playing on either wing, which could make him an ideal option for Arsenal next season.

Arteta has been left light on options in attack at times, with Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli spending time on the sidelines, and the signing of Lookman would provide the strength in depth required to compete on all fronts.

Injuries no doubt haven’t helped their cause, but the fact Spurs have fallen way below expectations indicates several reinforcements may be needed in the summer, and they are eyeing players in multiple positions.

A new striker is of interest, with Dominic Solanke and Richarlison suffering their fair share of injury problems this season, and the Lilywhites are now making moves to sign Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, while they are also stepping up their pursuit of Lille’s Jonathan David.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has made it clear Tottenham will have to be clever with how they operate in the transfer market this summer, saying: “We cannot spend what we do not have, and we will not compromise the financial stability of this club,”

“Recruitment remains a key focus, and we must ensure that we make smart purchases within our financial means.”

As such, it would be financially prudent to pursue free agents this summer, and signing Gomes could be a shrewd bit of business, given how impressive he has looked in a Lille shirt, notably impressing with his long-range passing last season.

The England international has also been lauded as “incredible” by Carlisle United midfielder Callum Whelan, indicating he could be a fantastic addition for Tottenham, who may be in need of at least one new midfielder, with Yves Bissouma’s future in doubt.

Aston Villa now join 6-team tussle to sign "bulldozing" teenage sensation

da bet nacional: Turning their attention towards the summer transfer window and navigating any PSR concerns, Aston Villa have reportedly joined the race to sign a South American wonderkid.

Aston Villa facing PSR concerns

da leao: As successful as the Villans have been on the pitch, that success may well come at a price amid concerns over profit and sustainability. Those at Villa Park haven’t been afraid to spend big in recent seasons, but after making losses of more than £105m across the last three campaigns, they are in danger of breaching PSR rules, according to reports.

After Chelsea decided to sell their woman’s team to a sister company in an attempt to comply with the rules and find a loophole, Aston Villa seem to have taken note and are now looking at selling similar stakes. Whether criticised or not, it would be quite the way to avoid any punishment.

Amid such problems, meanwhile, Champions League qualification may prove to be more important than ever if Villa want to ease their concerns and avoid having to sanction frustrating sales.

He’s a youngster in demand.

The Midlands club already sold Jhon Duran for big money during the January transfer window before welcoming Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford on loan, but should look to avoid a repeat of such a departure this summer.

Whether that’s in their hands remains to be seen, however. What hasn’t helped ease their concerns is David Ornstein’s recent report that Morgan Rogers is among those attracting big admirers ahead of the summer transfer window. It’s a narrative that Aston Villa must put to bed as soon as possible before turning their focus towards signing one particular star.

Aston Villa set sights on South American talent Rayan

Whilst Aston Villa must spend wisely if they are to spend this summer, one young forward slots into the category of players they should be able to afford in the coming months and one they should do everything to avoid missing out on. According to The Boot Room, Aston Villa have now joined the race to sign Rayan from Vasco da Gama.

The 18-year-old winger has attracted plenty of attention from interested parties in the Premier League, with Villa joined in line for his signature by Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Described as a “physical, bulldozing forward” by South American football expert Nathan Joyes, Rayan is still just 18 years old and a player who looks ready to complete his first move into European football.

Unai Emery rarely needs to convince players about his Aston Villa project these days, and Rayan should be no different. Like others before him, the forward would thrive under the Spaniard.

Bye-bye: "Fragile" £416,000-per-year Rangers player now set to leave Ibrox

da realbet: One Rangers player is on course to leave Ibrox over the coming months having recently been described as “fragile”.

Rangers manager rumours as 49ers agree takeover deal in principle

da betano casino: It is promising to be a busy few months off the pitch in Glasgow, with the 49ers Enterprises agreeing a deal in principle to take charge at Ibrox. Sky Sports reported last month that talks have been ongoing for a while now and there is ‘growing confidence on all sides that it will be completed ahead of the new season’.

The 49ers will have to get straight to work as well and look ready to do so as there have been claims they are ready to back a new manager in the transfer market with a £20m+ transfer budget.

Barry Ferguson is the current interim Rangers boss and has been impressing at times, defeating Jose Mourinho and Fenerbahce in the Europa League across two legs, while also winning at Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership.

Ferguson is thought to be keen on the idea of taking the Rangers manager job on a permanent basis, however, other names have been mentioned as potential targets.

Former Southampton manager Russell Martin has been linked with a move to Scotland, as has Liam Rosenior who is currently in charge of Strasbourg in France.

Rangers progressing to the semi-finals of the Europa League will only strengthen Ferguson’s case to land the job on a full-time basis, however, whoever is in charge could lose a plethora of current Gers players in the summer.

Forward Hamza Igamane is wanted by Marseille, who have made serious moves for the Morocco international. Rangers want £20m for the attacker, however, one player who could leave for free is defender Leon Balogun.

Leon Balogun on course to leave Rangers for free

According to Football Insider journalist Pete O’Rourke, Rangers are set to axe Balogun from the Ibrox books this summer.

The 36-year-old, on £8,000-a-week which equates to £416,000-a-year in Glasgow, is out of contract at the end of the campaign and O’Rourke says it is unlikely he will be offered a new deal.

Balogun returned to Rangers back in 2023, a year after leaving for QPR. Since moving back to Glasgow, he has made a further 44 appearances for the club, taking his overall tally to three figures.

Talking about Balogun recently, Derek Ferguson, brother of Barry, advised Rangers to move the defender on this summer, calling him “fragile”.

“I think he’ll be off. He’s done terrifically well since coming back in, but he’s 36 and injury-prone. He’s a good player, but is he someone Rangers should be looking to tie down? No. He’s done well across two spells, but no, it’s time for Leon to look elsewhere. Rangers will need to look for a younger version of Balogun – a player with pace, power and good in the air. Leon is just too fragile.”
